Settled in 1836 on Sand Mountain

Sylvania is on Sand Mountain in northern DeKalb County and covers 8.61 square miles.  The 2020 census counted 1,790 residents, a little fewer than the 1,837 in 2010.[1]

State Route 75 passes through town, heading northeast to Henagar and southwest to Rainsville.[1]

Sylvania's history

  • The settlement dates to 1836, and the town incorporated in October 1967.[1]

  • A fire destroyed the earlier school in 1945, and Sylvania High School was built in 1947.[1]

  • The school's mascot is the Rams, and its colors are gold and green.[1]

Primary Care Acute and chronic illnesses, physicals, wellness exams, minor procedures, dermatology, travel medicine and mental health care for patients from 6 months to seniors. Injections Maintenance injections including vitamin B12, LIPO, testosterone, Toradol, Phenergan, Norflex, Rocephin, Benadryl and tetanus. Lab Testing In-office lab tests including blood sugar, A1C, PT/INR, pregnancy, COVID and strep tests, urinalysis and drug screening. Digital X-Rays Digital X-ray on site: chest, abdominal, skull, thoracic spine and bone studies. EKG In-office electrocardiograms to check your heart rhythm and electrical activity. COVID-19 Information Awareness and guidance if you have had contact with someone with COVID-19, and testing information.
