From a Depression-era farm project to a town
Skyline started in 1934 as Cumberland Farms, a cooperative farming project of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and one of 43 such experiments across the country. It was renamed Skyline Farms to avoid confusion with a similar Tennessee project, and the experiment ended around 1944.[1]
The present town stands on the Cumberland Plateau at 1,591 feet. It incorporated in 1985, about a mile north of the old farm settlement.[1]
