Built on sand, solid as a rock

Sand Rock is a town on Lookout Mountain in Cherokee and DeKalb counties, and its motto is "Built on sand solid as a rock." Local legend traces the name to a pioneer who sat on a rock on sandy ground.[1]

Its post office ran from 1855 to 1903, and the town incorporated in 1988.  The 2020 census counted 591 residents, up from 560 in 2010.[1]
