The seat of Lawrence County

Moulton, southwest of Decatur, is the seat of Lawrence County and had 3,398 residents in 2020.  The town incorporated in 1819 and was named for Lieutenant Michael Moulton, who was killed at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.[1]

Moulton has been the county seat since 1820 and the county's largest community since the 1920 census.[1]

The office is open Monday to Thursday, 8 AM to 12 PM and 1 to 5 PM, and Friday 8 AM to 12 PM.  It is closed Saturday and Sunday, and 256-459-7771 is the number to call before you make the trip.
