Home of the Sand Mountain Potato Festival

Henagar sits on top of Sand Mountain at about 1,486 feet, and South Sauty Creek flows through it.  The 2020 census counted 2,292 residents.[1]

George Henegar settled the area around 1855, and a postal route misspelled the name.  The town was incorporated in 1965.[1]

The office is open Monday to Thursday, 8 AM to 12 PM and 1 to 5 PM, and Friday 8 AM to 12 PM.  It is closed Saturday and Sunday, and 256-459-7771 is the number to call before you make the trip.
