A railroad town beside I-65
Hartselle, 13 miles south of Decatur, is the second largest city in Morgan County and had 15,455 residents in 2020. The South and North Alabama Railroad started the town in 1869, and it carries the name of railroad owner George Hartsell.[1]
A fire in 1916 destroyed most of the old buildings, but the Hartselle Downtown Commercial Historic District still reached the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.[1]
