Founded by the man behind Cullman's name

Johann Cullmann, the German immigrant for whom Cullman County is named, founded Garden City in 1873.  The 2020 census counted 528 residents.[1]

The town lies near the southeastern border of Cullman County, where the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River marks both the county line and the town's southeastern edge.[1]

  • U.S. Route 31 (1st Avenue) goes through the center of town, 13 miles south of Cullman and 39 miles north of Birmingham.[1]

  • Part of Garden City is in Blount County, and the town moved between counties as borders changed until 1901.[1]
