Dutton is a very small Jackson County town at 1,368 feet on top of Sand Mountain, with 330 residents in 2020.  State Route 71 passes through it, between Section and Pisgah.[1]

The community was founded in 1888 under several names, including Press, Barnes, Callahan and Fern Hill.  It became Dutton in 1896, named for a local businessman, and incorporated in 1963.[1]
