The county seat founded by German settlers
Cullman is the Cullman County seat, with 18,213 residents in 2020. John G. Cullmann, a German immigrant and colonel, founded the city in 1873, and an annual Oktoberfest still honors that heritage.[1]
At about 814 feet on the Brindley Mountain plateau, the city lies along Interstate 65, roughly 50 miles north of Birmingham and 55 miles south of Huntsville. Ave Maria Grotto, with 125 miniature copies of famous religious structures, is its signature attraction.[1]
