On top of Sand Mountain
Crossville stands on Sand Mountain, a southern extension of the Cumberland Plateau, at about 1,132 feet. This DeKalb County town had 1,830 residents in the 2020 census.[1]
James A. Copeland gave the town its name because of its many crossroads. The first business opened in 1888, cotton mills began operating in 1903, and the town was incorporated in December 1942.[1]
