A community with a distinct history

Colony is in southern Cullman County and had 264 residents at the 2020 census.  It was most likely founded soon after the Civil War, during Reconstruction, and it is the only historically African American community in the county.[1]

Earlene Johnson was mayor when the town incorporated in 1981, and Colony Day is celebrated every August.[1]
