Allgood is a small Blount County town in Murphree Valley, surrounded by mountains and about 3 miles from the county seat, Oneonta. It had 548 residents in 2020 on about one square mile.[1]
The village was first called Chepultepec, probably after a Mexican-American War battle. Its name changed to Allgood in December 1915, and the town incorporated in 1959.[1]
Alabama Route 75 runs through town, and Birmingham is 38 miles away.[1]
As of 2010, Allgood became the first Alabama locality with a Hispanic plurality.[1]
U.S. Representative Miles C. Allgood, who served from 1923 to 1935, is among the notable people listed for the town.[1]
Albert A. Murphree, president of the University of Florida from 1909 to 1927, is listed too.[1]
